  1. Product Description

    A classic, phenolic acid based, acid etch anti-corrosive metal primer for use on degreased galvanised steel and rust free, clean dry mild steel, under a range of NEO Paints’ water and solvent based products.
    A fast drying acid curing metal primer with excellent corrosion resistance.

    Application Areas

    • Interior and exterior use.
    • Degreased and/or weathered galvanised steel.
    • Rust free, clean, dry, mild steel.
    • Clean, degreased aluminium, copper and brass.
    • Ideal fast drying shop primer for sandblasted steel and degreased galvanised metal.
    • NEO Corrotec is essential for fresh sandblasted steel. It should be applied within minutes after blasting to protect the highly corrosive blasted surface of steel.
  2. Product Features

    • An anti-corrosive primer suitable for use in the Namibian environment.
    • Excellent adhesion.
    • Can be over-coated with a range of NEO Paints’ water and solvent based products (1 and 2 pack systems including epoxies).
    • A single pack type etch primer based on phenolic-PVB resin. The primer contains acid, which enhances the adhesion and brings about an exceptional hardness for this coating.
    • It is the ideal pre-treatment primer for subsequent recoating with conventional anticorrosive primers, enamel paints, epoxy and polyurethane coatings or chlorinated rubber based topcoats.
    • NEO Corrotec is not resistant to prolonged exposure to the environment. Within a reasonable period of time this primer must be protected by additional coating systems.

    Spreading Rate 5-9 square metres per litre at 15-20 microns.
    Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 5-7 square metres per litre for the first coat and 7-9 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed, previously painted substrates.
    Viscosity Supplied: 50-60 sec Ford No. 4 cup / 25°C
    For high pressure air spray: thin down to ± 20 sec. Ford cup
  4. Application Details

    • Mixing Always stir well before use with a flat paddle.
    • Application Method Brush, air or airless spray.
    Roller application is not recommended.
    • Thinning NEO Corrotec is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with NEO M-Thinners (mt01) will reduce its hiding power and impair anti –corrosion protection.
    • Cleaning NEO M-Thinners (mt01).
    • Application • Stir well before use.
    • With brush or spray, apply a generous coat of NEO Corrotec.
    • For very severe cases e.g. in very harsh marine environments, two coats of NEO Corrotec are required.
    • Allow to dry 2-4 hours before recoating with NEO Paints’ water or solvent based products.
    • NEO Corrotec is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with NEO M-Thinners (mt01) will reduce its hiding power and impair anti-corrosion protection.
    • Clean up application equipment with NEO M-Thinners (mt01).
    • NEO Corrotec should never be mixed with other products.
    • Do not eat, drink or smoke during application.
    • Do not apply before 09:00 and after 16:00 in the winter.
    • Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 5-7 square metres per litre for the first coat and 7-9 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed, previously painted substrates.
    • Do not apply exterior if it looks like rain will occur within 4-6 hours of application.
  5. Surface Preparation

    • Mild Steel (Renovation) • Affected areas need to be cleaned back to bright metal by hand mechanical or blast cleaning.
    • Apply one or two coats of NEO Corrotec by means of brush or spray application, but not by means of a paint roller.
    • Mild Steel (New) • Abrasively degrease surfaces with NEO Metal Conditioner (mc00) to remove the manufacturer’s grease protective layer. This process is repeated until the surface is water break free.
    • Clean or sandblast steel to specification.
    • For the application on clean mild steel, sandblasted steel, degreased galvanised metal, aluminium, copper and brass, only one application is recommended.
    • After drying, the whole substrate is coated with one or two coats of NEO Corrotec.
  6. Colour Range and Quantities

    • NEO Corrotec is available in Red oxide only.
    • Available in 1 litre and 5 litres (20 litres can be supplied on special order).
  7. Precautions

    • NEO Corrotec is flammable and therefore should only be used in well ventilated areas.
    • Do not eat, drink or smoke during application.
    • NEO Corrotec contains no toxic ingredients or toxic corrosion inhibitors.
