    2 COMPONENT
    PRODUCT CODE: EE00
TECHNICAL DATA SHEET NO. 06-Specialised Products
    JULY 2009

  1. Product Description

A classic twin pack, epoxy based, poly amide cured, long-life, interior, abrasion resistant, high gloss coating for those high traffic areas that need a highly abrasion, water and chemical resistant coating in a range of colours.
  2. Application Areas

    • Interior use only.
    • Dry plaster or concrete substrates.
    • Primed metal and wooden substrates.
    • It is ideal to protect machinery, plant and equipment in an aggressive environment such as close to the sea, for example factories where aggressive chemicals are used and in food processing plants.
  3. Product Features

    • Highly abrasion and chemical resistant.
    • Highly washable and cleanable.
    • Excellent adhesion to range of properly prepared substrates.
    • High hiding power and film build.
    • NEO Epoxy Enamel is based on pure epoxy resin cured with a polyamide resin. It is a twin pack system. The catalyst must be added to the paint base before use and stirred well. A 5-litre pack consists of approximately 4 litres base paint and approximately 1 litre catalyst. Once mixed, the paint must be used within 6-8 hours. The higher the temperature, the faster the reaction between the paint base and the activator. At low temperatures the reaction between the paint base and activator is slowed down considerably and it may take days before the coating gets hard.
    • NEO Epoxy Enamel forms a very hard and dense coating. It is resistant against alkalis, mild acids, water and mineral oil substances. Epoxy coatings are used to protect machinery and plant in aggressive environments such as fish processors, mines, tanneries, and meat processing plants.
    • Two coats of NEO Epoxy Enamel are used for best results.
    • Epoxy coatings are not suitable for exterior use since they will deteriorate in UV light.
    • NEO Epoxy Enamel cannot be applied on existing gloss or semi gloss enamel paints.
  4. Product Data

    By mass: 65%
    Film Thickness ± 35 microns
Spreading Rate 6 - 12 square metres per litre.
Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 6-8 square metres per litre for the first coat and 10-12 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed, previously painted substrates.
    Surface Appearance High gloss finish
  5. Application Details

    • Mixing Always stir well before use with a flat paddle.
    • Application Method Brush, mohair paint roller or airless spray.
    • Thinning NEO Epoxy Enamel is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02) will reduce its effectiveness. Only for spray application, thin to 20-25 sek. No. 4 Ford cup with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02).
    • Cleaning NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02).
    • Application • Stir well before use.
    • NEO Epoxy Enamel is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02) will reduce its effectiveness. Only for spray application, thin to 20-25 sek. No. 4 Ford cup with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02).
    • Two coats of NEO Epoxy Enamel are used for best results.
    • Mix the epoxy base with the polyamide curing agent in the correct ratio: 4 volumes Epoxy base to 1 volume polyamide curing agent. Mix for 5 –10 minutes.
    • With brush, mohair roller or airless spray, apply a generous coat of NEO Epoxy Enamel. Only for spray application, thin to 20-25 sek. No. 4 Ford cup with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02).
    • Allow to dry 18-24 hours, but no longer than 48 hours, before recoating.
    • Epoxy coatings must be used within a strict time sequence. Each coating must be applied within 48 hours after the previous one; otherwise there will be no proper bond between the coatings.
    • With brush, mohair roller or airless spray, apply a second generous coat of NEO Epoxy Enamel.
    • Clean up application equipment with NEO Epoxy Thinner (et02).
    • Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 6-8 square metres per litre for the first coat and 10-12 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed, previously painted substrates.
    • For interior use only.
    • Only apply in well ventilated areas.
    • Keep away from all ignition sources, flames and sparks.
    • Do not eat, drink or smoke while applying.
    • Do not apply before 09:00 and after 16:00 in the winter.
  6. Surface Preparation

    • Mild Steel (Renovation) • Affected areas need to be cleaned back to bright metal and spot primed with NEO Corrotec (ct00).
    • Mild Steel (New) • Degrease surfaces with NEO Metal Conditioner (mc00) to remove the manufacturer’s grease protective layer. This process is repeated until the surface is water break free.
    • After drying, the whole substrate is coated with NEO Corrotec (ct00).
    • Mix the epoxy base with the polyamide curing agent in the correct ratio: 4 volumes Epoxy base to 1 volume polyamide curing agent. Mix for 5 –10 minutes.

    • With brush, mohair roller or airless spray, apply a second generous coat of NEO Epoxy Enamel.
    • Dry, Uncoated and New Concrete Surfaces
    • Raw / New Plaster
    • Make sure concrete is firm and completely dry as water vapour cannot permeate through epoxy coatings.
    • Remove all dust, foreign material, fungal and algae growth.
    • Fill and seal all visible cracks with NEO Aurora Filler (ef00) or NEO Repair Paste (nrp07).
    • Apply one coat of NEO Bonding Liquid (ig00) to cover NEO Aurora Filler (ef00) or NEO Repair Paste (nrp07).

    • Remove all loose, flaking and bubbling paint.
    • Remove all dust, grease, foreign material, fungal and algae growth.
    • Epoxy enamel does not adhere well on hard and fully cured epoxy coatings. The old coating must be prepared by sanding the product well to a matt and slightly rough surface.
