NEO ELASTIC WATERPROOFING
    PRODUCT CODE: EW00
TECHNICAL DATA SHEET NO. 04-Repair & Renovation
    JULY 2009

  1. Product Description

New generation water based, acrylic, elastic, long-life sealant for use with and without a woven membrane for sealing roofs from water penetration.
  2. Application Areas

    • Interior and exterior use.
    • Cement tiles (new or weathered), fibre cement sheeting (new or weathered), plaster, previously painted substrates.
    • Primed metal and wooden substrates.
    • Flat cement/concrete roofs.
    • Seal nail heads and roofing bolts.
  3. Product Features

    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing is a coating material, which prevents water penetration into the substrate. Applied in several layers and strengthened with a suitable woven material it forms a thick protective membrane for roof sealing.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing is available in several popular roof shades as well as white.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing is based on a highly flexible and water resistant acrylic resin emulsion.
    • Applied to specification it seals concrete roofs and prevents water penetration.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing remains highly flexible for years even after extended exposure to the environment.
    • Besides its main use on concrete roofs, NEO Elastic Waterproofing can be successfully applied on galvanised sheeting, roofing felt and fibre cement.
    • The product can be used for replacing roofing felt completely. When NEO Elastic Waterproofing is applied directly on to wooden roof boards with suitable woven matting such as Biddim, it forms a nearly indestructible and long-lasting roof coating superior to roofing felt.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing is ideal for repair work on roofs such as sealing nail heads, leaking flashings and repairing damaged or cracked roofing felt.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing can be used for the repair of leaking concrete or metal water dams and basins. Once the coating is properly dry and firm the coating is suitable for under water use.
    • Highly durable and UV resistant.
    • Highly water resistant.
    • Excellent long term flexibility.
    • Excellent adhesion.
    • Quick drying - two coats can be applied in one day.
    • Low odour.
    • Three to four coats of NEO Elastic Waterproofing are used for best results.
    • In white and pastel colours it also has the added benefit of being heat reflective and therefore reduces the temperature of the rooms (especially for metal roofs).
    • If correctly applied to a properly prepared substrate the product has a life expectancy of 5-7 years, possibly longer.
  4. Product Data

  5. Application Details

    • Mixing Always stir well before use with a flat paddle.
    • Application Method Brush or roller.
    • Thinning NEO Elastic Waterproofing is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with water will reduce its hiding power and effectiveness.
    • Cleaning Water.
    • Application • Stir well before use.
    • Three to four coats of NEO Elastic Waterproofing are used for best results.
    • With brush or roller, apply a generous/thick coat of NEO Elastic Waterproofing in small manageable sections.
    • Firmly and evenly press a layer of woven fabric waterproofing membrane such as Biddim into the wet layer of NEO Elastic Waterproofing.
    • Allow to dry 4-6 hours before recoating.
    • Apply a second, third and possibly a fourth generous coat, waiting 4-6 hours between coats, until the membrane is totally saturated and the surface has an even and very noticeable high sheen.
    • NEO Elastic Waterproofing is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with water will reduce its hiding power and effectiveness.
    • Clean up application equipment with clean tap water.
    • For application with woven fabric materials calculate at least one litre NEO Elastic Waterproofing per square metre substrate.
    • Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 3-4 square metres per litre for the first coat and 6-8 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed, previously painted substrates.
    • Do not apply before 09:00 and after 16:00 in the winter.
    • Do not apply exterior if it looks like rain will occur within 4-6 hours of application.
  6. Surface Preparation

    • Mild Steel (Renovation) • Affected areas need to be cleaned back to bright metal and spot primed with NEO Corroguard (two coats in coastal regions).
    • Mild Steel (New) • Degrease surfaces with NEO Metal Conditioner (mc00) to remove the manufacturer’s grease protective layer. This process is repeated until the surface is water break free.
    • After drying, the whole substrate is coated with NEO Corroguard (cg00).
    • Uncoated Cement, Concrete or Cement Tile Surfaces (e.g. Concrete Roofs) • Make sure surface is dry and firm.
    • Remove all dust, foreign material, fungal and algae growth.
    • Fill and seal all visible cracks with NEO Aurora Filler (ef00) or NEO Repair Paste (nrp07).
    • Apply one coat of NEO Bonding Liquid (ig00) to cover NEO Aurora Filler (ef00) or NEO Repair Paste (nrp07).
    • Apply one thick, undiluted coat of NEO Elastic Waterproofing.
    • Firmly and evenly press a layer of woven fabric waterproofing membrane such as Biddim into the wet layer of NEO Elastic Waterproofing using a dry paint roller or similar tool.
    • Work only in sections as fabric must be applied on to the still wet NEO Elastic Waterproofing.
    • Apply a further two coats of NEO Elastic Waterproofing thickly on to the fabric, saturating it properly.
    • The woven fabric must be completely saturated until the surface has an even, glossy sheen. If this is not achieved, the contractor must apply additional coats of NEO Elastic Waterproofing.
    • Uncoated Weathered or New Fibre Cement Surfaces and Roofing Felt • Remove dust, foreign material, fungal and algae growth.
    • If friable or powdery, seal with NEO Bonding Liquid (ig00).
    • Remove any collected sand and dust.
