  1. Product Description

    NEO Copal Varnish is an economical interior varnish.
  2. Application Areas

    Interior use only.
    Properly prepared wooden or timber substrates.
  3. Product Features

    Provides water and cleaning chemical resistance for interior surfaces.
    Flexible - moves with the wood but does not gather dust.
    Excellent adhesion to properly prepared wooden substrates.
    Three coats of NEO Copal Varnish are applied for best results.

    Film Thickness 20-25 microns
    Spreading Rate 6-12 square metres per litre.
    Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 6-8 square metres per litre for the first coat and 10-12 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed substrates.

  5. Application Details

    Mixing Always stir well before use with a flat paddle.
    Application Method Brush application. Paint roller application is not recommended.
    Thinning NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Cleaning NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Application Stir well before use.
    Sand the wooden substrate well and remove all dust.
    Three coats of NEO Copal Varnish are applied for best results.
    Brush apply the first coat diluted 10% with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Allow to dry 18-24 hours before sanding again.
    Remove all dust.
    Brush apply two more generous coats leaving 24 hours between coats.
    Clean up application equipment with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Only apply in well ventilated areas, keep away from all ignition sources, flames and sparks. 
    Do not eat, drink or smoke while applying.
    Do not apply before 09:00 and after 16:00 in the winter.
    For interior use only.
    Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 6-8 square metres per litre for the first coat and 10-12 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to sealed substrates.
  6. Surface Preparation

    New Wood Sand the wooden substrate well and remove all dust.
    Apply one coat of NEO Copal Varnish diluted with approximately 10% NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Allow to dry 18-24 hours before sanding again.
    Remove all dust.
    Brush apply two more generous coats leaving 24 hours between coats.
    Existing Varnished Surfaces Sand the wooden substrate well and remove all dust.
    If the existing varnished substrate is in a good condition, sand well and apply two coats of NEO Copal Varnish.
    Should the existing varnish coating be brittle, flaking, peeling, cracking etc., it must be completely removed:
    o Apply a thick layer of NEO Paint Remover (pr00) on the varnished surface.
    o After 15-20 minutes, lift off the paint remover together with the old varnish using a scraper.
    o Rinse well with warm soapy water to remove all traces of the paint remover.
    When dry, sand well and apply one coat of NEO Copal Varnish diluted with approximately 10% NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    Allow to dry 18-24 hours before sanding again.
    Remove all dust.
    Brush apply two more generous coats leaving 24 hours between coats.
  7. Colour Range and Quantities

    NEO Copal Varnish is available in clear (slightly yellow) only.
    Available in 500ml, 1 litre and 5 litres.
  8. Precautions

    NEO Copal Varnish is highly flammable.
    Use only in well ventilated areas and do not eat, drink or smoke during application.
    This product is meant for interior use only - it will not last more than a few months if it is used for exterior application.
    The product contains no toxic substances.
