NEO INDUSTRIAL PRIMER
    PRODUCT CODE: WP10
TECHNICAL DATA SHEET NO. 03-Primers & Undercoats
    JULY 2009

  1. Product Description

A classic, alkyd based, corrosion resistant primer for use on mild steel. Especially formulated to give good long term performance for the total system when used to provide a very strong and stable base for over-coating with a range of NEO Paints’ solvent based products.
  2. Application Areas

    • Interior and exterior use.
    • Mild steel.
    • Quick drying metal primer for use on door and window frames.
  3. Product Features

    • Reasonable corrosion protection but should be restricted to inland conditions. Not for use in highly corrosive coastal areas due to limited anti-corrosive abilities.
    • Excellent adhesion and hiding power.
    • Low odour.
    • Can be top-coated with a wide range of NEO Paints’ water and solvent based products.
    • Can be used as a cost efficient protective coating on mild steel objects.
    • Dries to a smooth, even and hard coating within a few hours. The product is highly resistant to mechanical wear and tear, to humidity, high temperatures and chemicals.
    • For general purpose, a higher viscosity product is required compared to dipping application. Therefore, NEO Industrial Primer sold in 5 litre and 20 litre containers is thicker and more concentrated making it suitable for brush application. For dipping purposes NEO Industrial Primer is available in 200 litre drums.

  5. Application Details

    • Mixing Always stir well before use with a flat paddle.
    • Application Method Brush, spray application or by dipping.
    • Thinning NEO Industrial Primer is ready for use un-thinned; thinning with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00) or NEO Enamel Thinner (et01) or NEO Quick Enamel Thinner (qe00) will reduce its hiding power.
Only for spray application dilute with NEO Enamel Thinner (et01) or NEO Quick Enamel Thinner (qe00).
    • Cleaning NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
    • Application • Stir well before use.

    • Do not apply exterior if it looks like rain will occur within 4-6 hours of application.
  6. Surface Preparation

    • Mild Steel (Renovation) • Affected areas need to be cleaned back to bright metal by hand, mechanical or blast cleaning.

    • Mild Steel (New) • Surfaces need to be abrasively degreased to remove the manufacturer’s grease protective layer. This process is repeated until the surface is water break free.
    • Remove any rust or mill scale from steel surface.
    • If required, degrease steel before paint application.
